Wendy Rolfe Visit to LSU

My former Oberlin classmate and friend Wendy Rolfe came for a visit to LSU. She performed a recital on the development of the flute throughout music history. She performed on six different flutes, including one made of crystal. She also taught a class on Baroque ornamentation as well as a class on Bach flute sonatas. Dianne Frazer was her collaborative pianist and I also played a trio with the two of them to close the concert. It was a wonderful experience.

NFA Convention 2011

I attended the NFA convention with LSU harpist Kimberly Houser. We performed on two concerts, a Tribute Concert for my former teacher Mark Thomas and a Chamber Music Concert for Flute and Harp. I also had six of my former students perform there. They were Jennifer Robin Lau, Sarah Berg Miles, Robert Aughtry, Kristen Puster, Linda Cotter, and Diana Tiffany Sipes. In Paris

This was the day that I listened to the piccolo exams at the Ecole Normale de Musique in Paris. They were all students of Mihi Kim, who is a world class performer and teacher. After that we taught and performed together at the Academie Internationale Musicale de Colombes. It was a wonderful experience!

It was so wonderful to perform with the Timm Wind Quintet at the University of Texas in Brownsville on May 7^th. We also did individual masterclasses. It was also great to see my former student, Asst. Prof. Cristina Ballatori and to work with her excellent students.

World-renowned flutist and University of Michigan Flute Professor Amy Porter was the guest artist for our LFS Flute Festival in Lake Charles last weekend, Feb. 26th. She gave a wonderful masterclass and a stellar recital performance with Dianne Frazer at the keyboard. She also did a mock orchestral audition followed by a masterclass on those excerpts for my studio at LSU on Feb. 27th. We were so fortunate to have her here and we all learned so much.

My Trip to San Juan Music Conservatory

Wendy Rolfe and I were guest artists at the Conservatory of Music in San Juan from Nov. 11-15, 2010. We each did two masterclasses and performed a recital together. The flute professor at the Conservatory, Josué Casillas, pictured here, also performed with us. In addition, I did a duo with my former student Iris Fagundo Cole. on the right was taken right after the concert with our wonderful pianist Teresa, who also plays with the Symphony. We were a bit warm because the concert was performed outside in a beautiful courtyard at the Conservatory.

I am so excited to be going to San Juan, Puerto Rico for a flute festival from Nov. 12-14. I will do a recital with my former Oberlin classmate Wendy Rolfe and we will both be teaching two masterclasses at the the Music Conservatory of Puerto Rico. More details when I return!

Lea Pearson Does Body Mapping Residency at LSU SOM

Lea Pearson did a week Body Mapping residency at the LSU School of Music from Oct. 4 – 9. She worked with all of my flute students individually, taught a studio class, gave a presentation for the entire student body, played a recital with pianist Dianne Frazer, and gave private sessions to all interested persons. She was fantastic! My students have requested to have her come back EVERY semester!!
